Design to incite a response
- Stefan Sagmeister – Sagmeister.com
Isn’t that what we do as designers? Or that’s what we should be doing! Graphic designers or an artists’ job as visual communicators is no to only make pretty pictures, but it is to create a message and make that message understood. To design to incite a response should be an easy assumption, but it’s only that … An assumption.
Designers design for clients, and those clients or bosses have no idea about the nuances of design and how to breathe emotion into ideas. It is our job as the skilled laborers to do as we are told … by Sagmeister and incite that response to your work. It doesn’t have to change the world, but it could. Make it a topic of conversation. Make something people remember, not just text, images and colors.
The VS Project does exactly that with every piece created. The artist take the various topics, some as serious as “war & peace” or as fun as ” your favorite sneaker” and we make the viewer feel as if they knew what the designer was thinking. The results are funny, disturbing, intense, though provoking and/ or silly. This is what good design does and why the VS Project is successful.
